A little over four minutes into the first episode, titled “Ejaculation,” a penis is displayed and a minute later, a 12-year-old is shown masturbating. There is a constant barrage of genitalia displayed on screen. Their friend Jay (Jason Mantzoukas) completes the inner circle. The two main characters, Nick Birch (Nick Kroll) and Andrew Glouberman (John Mulaney) dominate each episode while female characters Jessi (Jessi Klein) and Missy (Jenny Slate) play lesser roles. There is no way this could be run on network or even cable television. As a bonus, liberal talking points are peppered throughout the series at random moments. The disturbing series promotes sexual activity in children who are in the seventh grade – we’re talking 12 and 13-year-old middle school students.
Each half-hour episode addresses a part of young adolescent puberty and it is over the top in crude sexual talk and actions. The ten-episode adult animated sitcom Big Mouth debuted September 29 on Netflix.
